The Killers initially planned an Asia tour in Singapore, Beijing, Hong Kong, Manila, Tokyo & Seoul from but latest report revealed that they have cancelled their shows due to “unforeseen circumstances.”

A further look revealed this:

“I’m not sure if people are aware of it but these are probably our last shows for a while,” guitarist Dave Keuning let slip to an Australian Associated Press journo late last week from his home in Las Vegas.

“We haven’t had a break in quite a while. It’s just been touring and making records and on and on and on. It’s been like six years just kind of connected together.

“It’s like people just expect us to do that non-stop till we die, [your point being???] but we just want a little bit of time off, just to be myself and do what I want to do for a little bit.”

We all knew this was coming – there were plenty of rumours last year that the band was on the verge of a split and that Brandon Flowers was set to launch a solo career.

Does this mean that they’re over? It sure looks like it judging from the above quote.

Fans Outraged

A Facebook event created by fans, to welcome The Killers in Singapore quickly got infested with nasty comments after the news broke out. I’m sure that they had good reasons to cancel their but what I don’t understand is that they are still able to perform in Melbourne on February 21. Of which, could be their last concert.

Social Implication

Just a few minutes after the the news, I went to analyze this trend on Twitter:

cancelled

It’s not surprising to see that most of the buzz originated from the countries that they were about to perform at. News spreads like wild fire across the different mediums of social media; particularly Facebook and Twitter.

Here are a couple of tweets from fans showing their dissatisfactions:

Beware of Scammers!

Apparently, there are a few people who tried taking advantage of the situation. After analyzing the stream of Tweets for a couple of minute, it was obvious that the number of people who are trying to sell off their useless tickets at a reduced price is gradually increasing. You might ask why would they do that instead of refunding?

I urge everyone of you to inform your friends regarding this issue so as to prevent them from being cheated off their money.

Conclusion

The Killers cancelling their concert days before it happens got a lot of people talking about it; not the way they want it though. The news of them cancelling the show made its way across the Web within a matter of minutes. Social media is proven once again, a great tool in spreading messages.
