This is an quite of an old commercial created by Sony to market their Sony Vaio series. It is based around the YouTube channel of the Social Media Addicts Association, which houses a number of videos and the website Stop Writing On My Wall.
I feel that this is an ingenious method used by Sony to get people talking and sharing about their product by lampooning the ways people use social media as a whole. A fresh idea which is even more riveting due to the way they followed through the whole campaign.
The agency responsible for this is Nascom based in Belgium.
Here’s the mission statement of the group:
Are you one of the millions of people whose lives have been ruined by a never-ending torrent of tweets, friend requests and ‘Which kind of pasta are you?’ quizzes? Then it’s time you joined the Social Media Addicts Association.
SMAA is run by reformed social media addicts who all had the courage to stand up and admit to their problem. Will you stop poking people you haven’t seen since college, and join us?
Do you think that advertising through this way works for you as consumers? Share with us your opinions on the ad.
