There’s no doubt that Facebook Pages has helped a lot of organizations, businesses, celebrities and bands to connect with their readers/customers. As for Online Media Gazette Facebook’s Page, the addition of certain applications has helped us communicate and engage with our readers, and also capture new audiences through purely friend recommendations, News Feed stories and beyond.

However, after only been using Pages for Online Media Gazette for about 3 months, there are some features or rather the lack of it that irks me. No, it’s not the ‘Becomes A Fan’ button replaced by the ‘Like’ button but they’re more of administrative issues affecting Page admins. I hope that the following issues are resolved in future updates because there are a lot of people that want these changes too.

1. Not Possible To Change Facebook Page Name

Say that your company is going through a re-brand or a mergership between two or more businesses, which results in a new business name. It’s not possible to change your current Facebook Page name to reflect the changes. The only way to do this is by deleting your current Facebook Page and creating a new one with the desired name. As a result, all your previous content and your fans disappear.

2. Not Possible To Change Facebook Page Type

Facebook Page type determines the type of fields that would be available on your page; it’s like a category for your page. Unfortunately, like Facebook Page names, it can’t be tweaked after it’s created. As for Online Media Gazette, it’s listed as a ‘Company’ which was something that I thought it’ll be when I created it but slowly it’s becoming more of a ‘Brand’ rather than the latter. Again, the only way to change the Page type is by deleting it and re-creating a new one.

3. Page Admins Are Not Allowed To Send Individual Updates To Page Members

There comes a time that I would love to connect or pass a message to someone in my page without informing the entire horde of them but I realize that as an admin, it’s not possible for me to send out personalized messages to my Page members. I despise the idea of mass sending out updates without the opportunity to put a personal touch on it. The only way that I can go around this is through personally messaging them on Facebook through your profile page but the downside is, your profile page will be the one listed under the ‘Sender’ rather than the Page itself.

4. Page Members Are Not Allowed To Send Private Messages To Admins

I’m a fan of a number of Pages and there are times that I wish to connect with them through their Facebook Page messages rather than the wall itself but apparently this feature is not available for the Page members. There are two ways to go around this: first is to connect with them through their official email or post it on their wall if you fail to locate their email address. I would love to this feature live, so that I can save myself a couple of steps to connect with my desired Pages.

5. No Notifications Whenever Someone Post On Your Page

This is by far the biggest missing feature on Facebook Pages. As a page admin, I need to constantly scan through the Page for new updates manually rather than receiving a notification informing me of a new wall post or comments. It gets really tiring to do so after when your page have so many wall posts.

I hope every single one of these ‘missing’ features gets implemented in future updates to make Facebook Pages much more useful for businesses, organizations and brands alike. Are there any other features that you do not like or would like to see implemented on Facebook? Do voice it out here.

  • I really like this article. You make some great points, some of which I never even thought of. I particularly like number 3. There are times when I need to send out a message to all the page's friends/fans, but I like to add a personal touch to each message. Though I think all 5 points are drastically needed to be changed on facebook, I think Facebook should start with #3.

    Great Post! Thanks,

  • Exactly. I hate sending out generic messages to my readers; as much as I can, I would love to personalize it for each and every reader.
